The Illinois Freedom Caucus has strongly condemned the violent attacks by Hamas in Israel, labeling the group as a terrorist organization that targets innocent civilians and using the Palestinian people as human shields.

The caucus urged the President and Congress to support Israel’s right to self-defense, while also emphasizing the importance of securing national borders and defending Second Amendment rights to protect American citizens from potential threats.

“What is happening in Israel is appalling,” the Illinois Freedom Caucus said on Facebook.

“Hamas is a terrorist organization that targets innocent civilians and then cowardly uses the Palestinian people as human shields. We unequivocally condemn Hamas and their senseless, violent attacks on innocent people. We urge the President and Congress to not succumb to Hamas propaganda and to support Israel in its right to defend itself against these violent terrorists.”

“The events in Israel are a reminder that evil is real, the threat of terrorism is real, and we should be diligent as a nation to focus also on the safety of our own citizens. One of the best places to start is to secure our borders, defend our Second Amendment rights, and end the Sanctuary State policies that are putting our own citizens in harm’s way. We must support Israel, but we also need our leaders to step up and defend our nation by protecting our borders.”

In contrast, some leftist organizations have thrown their support behind Hamas.

The Chicago Democratic Socialists of America posted a note to Facebook saying the attack, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,300 innocent Israelis, was Israel’s fault.

“Today’s events are a direct result of Israel’s apartheid regime-a regime that receives billions in funding from the United States,” the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America said on Facebook.

Chicago City Council Democratic Socialist Caucus members Daniel la Spata, Rossana Rodriguez Sanchez, Byron Sigcho Lopez, Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, and Jeannette Taylor have thus far refused to renounce the group’s support of Hamas.

“They can disavow the hateful message of their national organization, but thus far have either remained silent or posted support. This is not a situation where moral equivalency holds. There is no justification for the brutal images and videos we have all seen. None,” Stuart Loren said of the group on X.

Public recently explored the shift in support for Hamas among some segments of the radical Left, attributing it to a perceived sense of privilege, coddling and narcissism, marking a departure from their historical stance on peace and anti-militarism.

There have been many noted instances of left-wing organizations endorsing Hamas’ terrorist actions, illustrating a change in their approach to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
