Events include a bike ride visiting historic May Day sites, the return of the Garfield Ridge Farmers Market, and a thrift-themed event at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. There are also dance performances, music shows, vendor fairs, yoga classes in parks, environmental cleanups, and special celebrations like the Chicago Fireboat’s birthday.
Among notable happenings is the “Dawn Of Digital” exhibit at Public Works Gallery in Wicker Park featuring workshops and music showcases throughout the weekend. The Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre will present its spring concert series with new works exploring heritage and identity at Columbia College Chicago’s Dance Center. Fashion enthusiasts can attend student runway shows presented by School of the Art Institute designers.
For those interested in food or shopping local goods, several markets are reopening for their seasonal runs. These include Green City Market West Loop at Mary Bartelme Park on Saturday morning; Garfield Ridge Farmers Market featuring produce from three local farms; Wicker Park Farmers Market returning for its 26th season; and over 115 vendors gathering for Sunday’s Chicago Artisan Market in Fulton Market.
Additional activities range from classical music concerts by FilAm Baroque Ensemble to family-friendly festivals such as World Fair Trade Day at Uptown’s Fair Trade Museum or beaver-themed educational fun at Nichols Park Fieldhouse. The National Public Housing Museum will host a hip-hop event with live performances suitable for all ages.
