The City of Peoria announced on April 17 that Adams Street, between Walnut Street and North William Kumpf Boulevard, will be converted from one-way to two-way traffic starting Wednesday, April 22. This change is part of the Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue One-Way to Two-Way (OWTW) Conversion Project.

The new traffic pattern is expected to affect drivers traveling through downtown Peoria. Officials say motorists should pay attention to the new two-way configuration, look for updated pavement markings and signage, and allow extra time when navigating the area.

Drivers are advised to look both ways before entering or crossing Adams Street in this section. The city also noted that left turns onto Adams Street from the Bob Michel Bridge or North William Kumpf Boulevard will be allowed, as well as right turns onto Adams from North William Kumpf Boulevard. However, northbound Adams Street from the Bob Michel Bridge/North William Kumpf Boulevard will remain one-way until it is switched over in the coming weeks.

Authorities remind all drivers to follow posted traffic signals for turning movements and remain alert for other vehicles and pedestrians as people adjust to these changes. Drivers are encouraged to proceed slowly through this area while everyone adapts.
