The City of Peoria announced on April 24 that Adams Street between North William Kumpf Boulevard and Hamilton Boulevard will change from one-way to two-way traffic beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28. This change is part of the Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue One-Way to Two-Way Conversion Project.

The conversion is expected to impact drivers traveling through downtown Peoria, as new pavement markings, traffic signals, and signage will be in place. The city urges motorists to “BE ALERT FOR TWO-WAY TRAFFIC” and advises them to allow extra time when navigating the area.

Drivers are reminded to look both ways before entering or crossing Adams Street within the affected segment. The new configuration includes a bi-directional center turn lane and added bike lanes. Motorists exiting parking decks should note new right-turn-only exit requirements and plan their routes accordingly.

Until the switch at 10 a.m. on April 28, existing lane closures and current traffic patterns remain in effect. Drivers are asked to follow all posted signage for turning movements, use caution in work zones, watch for workers and equipment, and heed any instructions provided by flaggers who may be present.

According to the city announcement, this project is entering its final weeks with completion anticipated next month.
