Three men who were shot early Sunday morning in the 2900 block of West Irving Park Road had attempted to enter a nearby business but were turned away before the incident, according to Ald. Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez (33rd), who spoke about the case on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at 2:47 a.m., when police said a woman fired shots at the three men — ages 31, 37, and 38 — from a distance. The woman then fled the scene, according to police and reports by ABC7. Police did not specify her location during the shooting.

The victims suffered various injuries: The 37-year-old man was shot multiple times and taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition; the 38-year-old man was also taken there and initially listed as fair; and the 31-year-old man was treated for a gunshot wound to his right calf at St. Francis Hospital, where he was also listed as fair. As of Wednesday morning, no arrests had been made and police had not released additional information.

Rodriguez-Sanchez said that prior to being shot, the three men tried to enter Marinero Bar and Grill at 2916 W. Irving Park Road but were denied entry. Following the shooting, she said police increased patrols in the area and representatives from several city departments planned inspections along what is typically considered a quiet commercial strip.

“The city needs to know that everything inside of the business is in order,” Rodriguez-Sanchez said. She added that her office received several calls from surprised neighbors seeking more information after news of the shooting spread.

Rodriguez-Sanchez said she was surprised by what happened given her conversations with police and her knowledge of local history: “I don’t have any issues in that area of the ward.”
