Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, announced on May 13 his appointment to the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee (AGAC), a select group of United States Attorneys who advise Department of Justice leadership on national law enforcement priorities.

The AGAC is significant because it brings together experienced federal prosecutors from across the country to inform and guide national strategies on key issues such as violent crime, national security, fraud, and narcoterrorism. The committee aims to ensure that field experience shapes Department of Justice policy.

Created in 1973, the AGAC consists of 18 United States Attorneys representing a range of geographic areas and subject matter expertise. Members work through subcommittees and working groups focused on critical law enforcement topics as set by the President.

Boutros and other members met with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and department leaders last week in Washington, D.C., with their first substantive meeting scheduled for next month. “I am honored to be appointed to the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee,” said U.S. Attorney Boutros. “I want to thank Acting Attorney General Blanche for his trust and confidence in me. I accept his appointment with sincere humility, fully mindful of the immense responsibility it carries, and the exceptional standards of excellence set by Department leadership and my colleagues on the Committee. As United States Attorney, I have been sharply focused on innovating, driving results, productivity, scalability, and maximizing impact, including reducing violence and disrupting fraud—all while staying true to the Department’s cherished and ancient motto: ‘Qui Pro Domina Justitia Sequitur,’ meaning ‘Who prosecutes on behalf of justice.’ I will do my utmost to carry that mission forward while working closely with my colleagues on the AGAC to achieve the Department’s core priorities.”

Boutros has served as U.S. Attorney since April 7, 2025. He leads federal law enforcement efforts in a district covering about nine million people across 18 counties. In his tenure so far he has prioritized cases involving violent criminals, transnational cartels and terrorist groups, human traffickers, fraud actors, among others.

Before becoming U.S. Attorney he was an Assistant U.S. Attorney from 2008-2015 handling hundreds of cases including those with national or international importance; then worked in private practice holding leadership roles such as Co-Chair of White Collar at a Chicago firm; taught criminal law at University of Chicago Law School for sixteen years; published two books; authored nearly 160 articles or book chapters; presented at over one hundred speaking engagements; earned degrees from University of Virginia School of Law (JD) and Virginia Tech (BA); clerked for Judge Eugene E. Siler Jr., Sixth Circuit Court.
