Cultural anthropologist and resident Alejandro Lugo presented three photographs celebrating Park Forest’s landscapes and public spaces during the Board of Trustees meeting on Apr. 22.

The presentation highlighted aspects of the Village that contribute to a sense of community and belonging for residents. Lugo’s images, now displayed at Village Hall, include views of local wetlands, a prominent tree along a walking path, and sculptures near the Village Green.

Lugo said his goal was to help residents see themselves reflected in their surroundings. “Lugo said he hopes the images allow residents—and future residents—to see themselves reflected in the Village. By focusing on familiar, everyday spaces, Lugo expressed the importance of representation and belonging in shaping how people experience their surroundings.”

The wetlands photograph illustrates Park Forest’s natural environment, while the image of a tree along a walking path represents tranquility within daily life. The sculpture photo showcases artistic features that are part of Park Forest’s identity.
