The City of Aurora announced on Mar. 30 that Aurora GreenFest will return on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., following a one-year hiatus. The event is organized in partnership with the Mayor’s Sustainable Aurora Advisory Board and Aurora GreenLights, an affiliate of The Conservation Foundation.

Aurora GreenFest is a free event aimed at promoting energy efficiency and environmental awareness within the community. Organizers say this year’s festival will feature over 100 exhibitors who will provide information about saving energy at home and protecting the environment.

The theme for this year’s festival is “Make a Difference! Be Energy Smart!” Special exhibits are planned to offer resources about home energy savings, rebates for household items, and demonstrations of do-it-yourself projects. Groups such as the Chicago Herpetological Society and Fox Valley Electric Auto Association are scheduled to attend, offering education on wildlife conservation efforts and electric vehicles.

A community marketplace will also be part of the event, with vendors selling products designed to make homes more attractive, healthy, and energy efficient. Mavis Bates, Festival Founder and Chairwoman, said: “GreenFest is an amazing way to keep our community sustainable and resilient. We love bringing our community together to celebrate sustainability, and appreciate Aurora’s support for GreenFest since 2010.”

Vendor and exhibitor applications are still being accepted through the festival website for local artists, jewelry makers, artisans, environmental groups, and government officials interested in participating.
