Barbara Gunderson, formerly Barbara Marciniak from Lemont, peacefully passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025. Born in 1936, Barb graduated from Lemont High School in 1956 and later pursued nursing, graduating from the Illinois Masonic Nursing School in Chicago. She dedicated her career to the medical field, working in surgery at several hospitals, including MacNeil Hospital in Berwyn, LaGrange Hospital, and Hinsdale Hospital, as well as Phoenix Baptist Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. Barb spent 40 years with Dr. T. Girgis and Associates in Hinsdale, working in surgery and in their office.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Gary Gunderson, her sister Rita (Richard) Ely, nieces Lisa Ely and Erin Marciniak, her nephew Scott Ely (Heidi), and great-nieces Grace and Stella. She is predeceased by her parents, Theresa and Stanley Marciniak, her brother James, and her nephew Karl.

Memorial services to honor Barbara’s life will be held at a later date. Those who wish to make a donation in her memory can contribute to the TLC Animal Shelter at www.tlcanimalshelter.org.
