Block Club Chicago released on April 24 its latest collection of photographs documenting a range of events and developments across the city’s neighborhoods.
The weekly photo feature captures key moments from recent days, providing readers with visual insights into local activities, community initiatives, and neighborhood transformations.
Among the highlights is the annual Battle of the Badges charity boxing event at De La Salle Institute, where first responders competed for a good cause. Other images show city workers and residents responding to changes at encampments in Mayfair, as well as celebrations marking new business openings such as Migos Fine Foods in Bronzeville and Pretty Cool Ice Cream’s expanded facility in Irving Park. The photo series also includes coverage of acting CTA President Nora Leerhsen announcing updates to public transit stations through the agency’s Refresh and Renew program.
Additional scenes depict BEDS Plus and Marquette Bank officials breaking ground on a project to convert the Aloha Motel into a housing shelter with private rooms. Local businesses are also featured, including Schools Are Us under new ownership in Mount Greenwood, The Video Strip movie rental store in McKinley Park, Unison café linked to BandWith Chicago’s arts center in East Garfield Park, and Friends & Neighbors wine bar preparing for its Bucktown opening. Community members are shown engaging with redevelopment plans for the former Mars Wrigley Factory site following its closure after nearly a century of operation.
This photographic summary offers an overview of ongoing efforts by individuals and organizations throughout Chicago to support one another while adapting to change.
