Board of Education celebrates students and staff at May meeting

The Board of Education highlighted Millennium School during its monthly meeting, according to a May 22 announcement. Principal Juli Cosentino presented a video that celebrated student experiences at the school. The presentation ended with a juggling demonstration, which is described as a longtime Falcon tradition enjoyed by students and their families.

This recognition is part of an ongoing effort where each month one of District 140’s seven schools is featured at the Board meetings, giving students and staff an opportunity to share what makes their school community unique.

Kirby School District 140 represents several schools in Cook County, including Christa McAuliffe School, Fernway Park Elementary School, Helen Keller Elementary School, John A. Bannes Elementary School, Millennium Elementary School, Prairie View Middle School, and Virgil I. Grissom Middle School, according to the Illinois Report Card. The district enrolled 3,606 students in the 2019-2020 school year and serves grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade in Tinley Park and Cook County.

According to the Illinois State Board of Education data for Kirby School District 140: there are 258 teachers with an average salary of $68,179 before pension contributions; about 90 percent are women; no teachers have more than ten absences per year; the student body is about 79 percent White with smaller percentages identifying as Black (3 percent), Hispanic (8 percent), or Asian (4 percent); per-student spending was $20,628 in 2020 for a total expenditure of over $74 million; chronic truancy affects only half a percent of enrolled students compared to nearly ten percent statewide.according to the Illinois State Board of Education.

District officials continue this monthly spotlight series as part of efforts to showcase achievements within each school community.
