The Brown County Sheriff’s Office released its activity report on April 20, detailing traffic accidents and citations from the past week.

The report states that on April 19, William D. Snyder of Mt. Sterling lost control of his vehicle on Route 99/County Road 1150N, overturning in a field east of the road. A juvenile passenger was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The damage to the vehicle exceeded $1,500.

Traffic citations issued included Rasheed A. Anofiu of Macomb for speeding in a 30 MPH zone near East Main/Brown County High School on April 17, and Dalia E. Moreno-Reyes of Beardstown for speeding in a similar area on April 18. On April 19, Russell T. Neese of Versailles received multiple citations at County Road 1325E/County Road 850N Avenue for operating a vehicle with suspended registration, speeding in a 55 MPH zone, driving uninsured, resisting or obstructing an officer, and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement.

Recent educational statistics show that Brown County had an average student-to-teacher ratio of twelve to one during the last school year with a total enrollment of six hundred seventy-four students across all schools and fifty-five full-time faculty members according to state data. Among these schools, Brown County Elementary School reported having two hundred fifty-three white students enrolled last year as reported by state education records.

White students made up ninety-five point one percent of the student population in Brown County schools during the same period according to state data. Academic performance remains an area of concern; more than eight out of ten high school students are not at grade level in math based on SAT results this school year state figures show, while nearly eight out of ten are below grade level in English according to state reports. The percentage failing math rose from seventy-five point six percent last year to eighty-two point four percent this year as documented by education officials.
