Brown County Sheriff’s Office reports traffic accidents and citations for May 2026

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office released its report on May 18 detailing recent traffic accidents and citations in the county. The report covers incidents that occurred between May 11 and May 17.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, several traffic accidents took place during this period. On May 11, Michael K. Hopping of Timewell was traveling eastbound on County Road 1050E when his vehicle collided with a westbound vehicle driven by Trinitey L. Davis of Mt. Sterling; both vehicles were towed from the scene. Also on May 11, a juvenile from Mt. Sterling was driving southbound on CR 795E when their vehicle struck another driven by Stephanie R. Reiche of Mt. Sterling, who was heading eastbound on CR 410N.

On May 17, Samantha Rock of South Jacksonville struck a deer while traveling southbound on Route 99 south of Versailles.

The Sheriff’s Office also reported multiple speeding citations during this time frame: Eridania M. Vargas of Naperville (43 mph in a 25 mph zone), Chloe M. Roberts of Timewell (70/55), Fernando A. Gomez of Jacksonville (75/55), Matthew J. Peters of Pittsboro, Indiana (50/25), Valeria B. Gonzalez of Tuscola (driving on revoked license and speeding at 45/25), Tierra L. Gallaher of Quincy (74/55), Trudy Hallinan of Evanston (42/25), Jakob R. Hayes of Vermont (74/55), Stephanie M. Fleer of Camp Point (78/55), and Amber D. Gardner of Winchester (42/25).

Education statistics show that Brown County had an average student-to-teacher ratio of twelve to one in the previous school year with three schools serving a total enrollment that included Brown County Elementary School as having the highest number for white students; overall, white students made up over ninety-five percent across all schools according to the Illinois State Board of Education. More than eight out ten public high school students in Brown County are not at grade level in math or English based on recent SAT results, with failure rates rising for math from about seventy-six percent to eighty-two percent between consecutive years according to the Illinois State Board of Education.
