The College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) at Illinois State University hosted its annual Science and Technology Week from April 13 to 17, according to a May 5 announcement. The week featured events that celebrated advancements in science and technology, as well as the accomplishments of students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Science and Technology Week is important for recognizing the work of those in applied sciences fields while providing opportunities for networking and professional growth. The event began with the CAST Academy of Achievement ceremony, which honored distinguished CAST alumni who have become leaders in their professions. Inductees included John Heiser for Agriculture; Sara Krewson for Family and Consumer Sciences; Eddie Gordon for Health Sciences; Ramtin Davanlou for Information Technology; Lindsay Vahl Dean for Kinesiology and Recreation; Troy Deiss for Technology; along with Dr. Donna Selman representing Criminal Justice Sciences.
The CONNECT event followed on the second day, giving current students a chance to interact with alumni through a panel discussion led by Yelyse Walls, Jasmine Buckner, and Alexia Bryant. Panelists shared their experiences transitioning from university life to professional careers. According to organizers, this event aimed to provide “valuable insight into navigating the transition from University to professional life” through meaningful discussions between students and graduates.
The week concluded with a faculty/staff appreciation luncheon celebrating contributions made during the academic year. Organizers thanked all attendees—students, alumni, faculty members—for making the week successful.
