Construction work to replace a retaining wall near the intersection of Cedar Hills Drive and Singing Woods Road will begin on April 27. During the project, Cedar Hills Drive will be reduced to one lane, with temporary traffic signals in place. The work is expected to continue until August, and motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through the area.
The roadwork may affect local travel patterns for several months as crews carry out the replacement project. The change aims to maintain safety and manage traffic flow during construction.
In addition to infrastructure updates, recent data show that Peoria County had an average student-to-teacher ratio of 15-to-1 in the 2022-23 school year, with a total enrollment of 27,081 students and 1,844 full-time faculty members across its schools, according to the Illinois State Board of Education. Teacher absenteeism in Peoria County schools was recorded at 32.3% during this period, which is lower than the statewide average of 35.6%, also reported by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Among local schools, Dunlap High School had the highest enrollment of white students with a total of 873; Richwoods High School enrolled the most multiracial students at 182; Lincoln School led in Hispanic student enrollment with 218; and Peoria High School had the highest number of Black students at 798 during the same school year. These figures are based on information from the Illinois State Board of Education.
As construction continues through August, drivers should remain alert for changing traffic conditions around Cedar Hills Drive.
