State Representative Charlie Meier welcomed Dr. India Johnson and Kayla Gentz to the Illinois Capitol as part of the House Republicans’ annual Women to Watch Leadership Event, according to a May 15 statement. The event recognizes women from across Illinois who have made an impact in their communities.
The gathering highlights the contributions of local leaders and provides opportunities for recognition and networking. Each year, Republican lawmakers nominate women from their districts who are making a difference.
Dr. India Johnson is a Nurse Anesthesiologist and President of Rose MedSpa and Wellness. She has been active in revitalizing Downtown Troy and supporting her community through personalized aesthetics and holistic wellness initiatives. Kayla Gentz, associated with the New Baden Park Boosters, led efforts that secured significant funding for improvements at New Baden Park, including new playground equipment and enhanced accessibility features.
Meier also addressed issues affecting central and southern Illinois residents, including concerns about high electricity prices during summer heat waves due to recent capacity auctions managed by Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). Ameren Illinois customers will pay 11 cents per kilowatt-hour starting June 1, which is lower than last year’s rate but remains higher than rates seen in previous years.
In legislative news, Meier passed House Resolution 865 honoring Roger Stieg’s induction into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class of 2026. “Roger Stieg is a Southern Illinois basketball legend,” said Rep. Charlie Meier. “Our community is proud of all he has contributed, as a player, teacher and coach. I am pleased to recognize him with an official Illinois House Resolution, ensuring his legacy is preserved in Illinois history.”
Meier was elected as a Republican representative for the state’s 109th House District in 2023 after replacing David Reis, according to Ballotpedia.
