Illinois State Senator Andrew Chesney announced on April 27 his annual Summer Reading program for students in the 45th District. The initiative invites children entering first through eighth grade to read eight books before August 15.

The program aims to keep students engaged and help them develop strong reading habits during the summer break. Chesney said, “I’m encouraging students across the 45th District to stay engaged this summer by taking part in my annual Summer Reading program.”

He outlined that participants are encouraged to visit their local libraries, select books they are interested in, and track their progress as they read. Once all eight books are completed, students can submit a short online form to finish the challenge.

“Students who participate will receive an official certificate of recognition from the Illinois Senate. It’s a great way to celebrate your hard work and commitment to learning,” Chesney said.

Chesney, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2023 representing the state’s 45th Senate District, succeeding Brian Stewart according to Ballotpedia.
