Chicago Fire FC lost 3-1 to Red Bull New York on May 9 at Soldier Field, with forward Hugo Cuypers extending his club-record scoring streak to eight consecutive matches. The defeat leaves Chicago with a record of five wins, four losses, and two draws for the season.

The match saw New York take the lead just before halftime when Emil Forsberg set up Jorge Ruvalcaba for the opening goal. In the second half, Ronald Donkor assisted Cade Cowell for a second goal, and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting converted a penalty in the 81st minute after a video review. Chicago’s only goal came late in the game when Cuypers volleyed home a rebound in the 87th minute.

Maren Haile-Selassie made his 100th regular season appearance for Chicago Fire FC during this match. “Hugo Cuypers extended his Club-record scoring streak to eight games, scoring for the 11th time this season. His 87th minute strike put him in the lead of the MLS Golden Boot race, one goal ahead of FC Dallas’ Petar Musa, with action yet to come in the match,” according to Chicago Fire FC Communications.

Chicago Fire FC competes in Major League Soccer conferences with a professional roster and utilizes Soldier Field for matches and events, according to the official website. The club fosters soccer growth in the Midwest and engages in community initiatives while supporting youth development programs. It has also earned victories in both MLS Cup and multiple U.S. Open Cups.

The team will play its next two matches on the road against D.C. United on May 13 and CF Montréal on May 16. Both games will be broadcast globally on Apple TV and locally via radio stations WLS 890 AM (English) and TUDN Chicago or Uforia by TREBEL app (Spanish).
