Chicago Fire FC lost 3-2 to FC Cincinnati on May 2 at Soldier Field, with forward Hugo Cuypers scoring two goals for the third consecutive match. Despite Cuypers’ performance, which made him the fastest player in club history to reach ten goals in a single season, Chicago was unable to secure a win.

The match saw Chicago take an early lead when Cuypers scored his ninth goal of the season after a play involving Jonathan Dean and Philip Zinckernagel. Cincinnati quickly responded with Evander equalizing in the 24th minute. Four minutes later, Cuypers found the net again following assists from Anton Salétros and Zinckernagel, but Evander soon leveled the score once more.

In the second half, Cincinnati was reduced to ten men after defender Kyle Smith was ejected for a foul on Robin Lod. Chicago pressed their advantage and earned a penalty kick late in regulation time; however, goalkeeper Roman Celentano saved Cuypers’ attempt. In stoppage time, Evander completed his hat trick by converting a penalty for Cincinnati’s game-winning goal.

Cuypers’ achievement set a new club record by reaching double-digit goals in just seven games—four matches faster than Nemanja Nikolić’s previous record from 2017. Zinckernagel contributed his fourth assist of the season and extended his streak of matches with either a goal or assist to five games.
