Mayor Brandon Johnson announced on April 15 that the boundaries of the Canal/Congress Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district would be expanded to include the Greyhound Bus Station located at 630 W. Harrison St. on Chicago’s Near West Side. The proposal was introduced to City Council and aims to add 4.3 acres of land into the existing TIF district, which could provide financial resources to help maintain the station’s operations as Chicago’s main intercity bus terminal for over three decades.
The expansion plan follows approval by the Community Development Commission on April 14, which authorized potential acquisition of the property and amendments to the district budget. The Canal/Congress TIF district currently covers 41 acres and was established in 1998, with its expiration scheduled for late 2034.
