Chicago Public Library announced on May 27 that it now provides full digital access to The New York Times for its patrons. The service is available both in-person at all library branches and remotely from home.
Through the library’s subscription, users can access unlimited content including New York Times News archives dating back to 1851, Games, Cooking, The Athletic, Audio, Wirecutter, and more. Patrons can find links to these resources on the library’s online resource A-Z page.
To use The New York Times at a Chicago Public Library location, visitors should go to nytimes.com while connected to a public computer or using the library Wi-Fi on their own device. Access requires creating a new account or logging into an existing one.
For remote access outside of library locations, users must redeem a code by entering their library card number and PIN online. This process provides a 24-hour access period; after it expires, patrons may repeat the steps for continued use. Instructions are available through instructional videos provided by the library.
Patrons can also download and use The New York Times app from the App Store or Google Play for mobile reading.
