The City of Aurora’s Youth Services Division announced on May 8 that it will host the 32nd Annual Sports Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Phillips Park, located at 828 Montgomery Road in Aurora.
The event is part of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month and aims to bring together over 1,200 student-athletes from 14 different middle schools across Aurora. Participants will compete in a range of activities including basketball, soccer, softball, bowling, skating, chess, checkers, cornhole, volleyball, golf, and tennis as they vie for the “Al Miller Cup.”
“For 32 years, the Aurora Sports Festival has made its mark as a day of friendly competition between all Aurora middle school students,” Simon Rodriguez, Youth Services Manager for the City of Aurora said. “With over 1,200 student-athletes competing and over 100 volunteers and vendors participating, the Sports Festival is the Youth Services Division’s biggest event and most honored tradition. We are excited for this year’s event, and wish all of our student athletes the best of luck!”
Opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., followed by simultaneous competitions throughout Phillips Park. The competitions will conclude at approximately 1 p.m., with closing ceremonies and a trophy presentation for the winning school.
According to organizers, participation in the festival is open to local middle school physical education students who maintain an A or B grade in their class. The festival emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and civic pride among participants.
