The City of Rockford announced on Apr. 27 that it has received a $700,000 grant from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority to enhance and broaden services at the Family Peace Center.
This funding aims to strengthen collaborative efforts among local agencies and improve access for survivors of domestic and sexual violence by providing more comprehensive support in one location. The expansion will allow key partners to work more closely together at the center.
As part of this initiative, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office will assign a full-time victim services provider at the Family Peace Center. This staff member will assist survivors involved in criminal cases by offering updates on case status, court dates, and guidance through legal proceedings. The Winnebago County Probation Department plans to add a part-time probation officer at the center as well, increasing coordination for those connected with the justice system. Additionally, the Rockford Illinois Police Department is introducing a new victim advocate within its Domestic Violence Unit to support survivors during police response and afterward.
The city said this investment highlights an ongoing commitment to a multidisciplinary approach involving over 30 partner agencies working together for improved outcomes for survivors.
Looking ahead, officials expect these changes will make it easier for individuals affected by domestic or sexual violence to find assistance and navigate complex legal processes.
