Illinois State Representative Mike Coffey congratulated the Harris Family Band on their 60th anniversary, according to a May 15 statement. Coffey extended his congratulations on behalf of the members of the Illinois House of Representatives.
The Harris Family Band gave their first performance on July 4, 1966, at Lake Springfield’s DAV Club after Joe Madonna saw the children rehearsing at home. Since then, the family has performed for six decades.
“On behalf of the members of the Illinois House of Representatives, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Harris Family Band on this extraordinary 60th anniversary,” Coffey said. “Their very first performance took place on July 4, 1966, at Lake Springfield’s DAV Club after Joe Madonna happened to see the children rehearsing at home. From that moment on, the Harris family began a journey that would span six decades of music, entertainment, and unforgettable memories. Congratulations to the Harris Family Band, and thank you for your enduring legacy of music, family, and excellence!”
Coffey was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 95th House District in 2023 and replaced previous state representative Tim Butler, according to AFSA Online.
The recognition marks an important milestone for both local music history and community engagement.
