Southern Illinois University Athletics and the SIU Foundation announced on April 21 that Cole Steward has joined Saluki Athletics as assistant director of development, effective April 1.
Steward’s appointment is intended to strengthen donor relations and foster long-term support for Saluki programs. In his new role, he will focus on engaging alumni, donors, and supporters to advance the mission and future success of Southern Illinois University (SIU) Athletics.
A native of Salem, Illinois, Steward returns to SIU after four years at Western Kentucky University where he worked as athletic advising coordinator. His responsibilities there included academic planning for student-athletes, monitoring eligibility, and supporting leadership development. Steward is an alumnus of SIU and played football under head coach Nick Hill from 2017 to 2021. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sport administration and a master’s degree in education in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport studies from Southern Illinois University.
“SIU has always meant a great deal to me, both as a student-athlete and as an alumnus,” Steward said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back to the Salukis and help build strong relationships that support our student-athletes and programs for years to come.”
Southern Illinois University Athletics oversees intercollegiate sports programs according to the official website.
