Senior Adriana Crabtree of Illinois Wesleyan University finished third in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 22. The event took place in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and marked Crabtree’s final race as a member of the team.
Crabtree set a new program record and established a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-time record with her time of 10:18.82. This performance broke the previous conference record held by Wheaton’s Hannah Roeske since 2018. Sophie Bull from Calvin won this year’s national title with a meet record time of 10:04.18.
The third-place finish is Crabtree’s highest placement at a national championship. She is now a two-time First Team All-American in the event, having previously finished seventh last season.
Other notable performances for Illinois Wesleyan included senior Evan Lowder qualifying for the men’s 400-meter finals after running second in his heat with a time of 47.30 seconds. Junior Mackenzie Huber concluded her season by placing seventeenth in the women’s 800-meter preliminaries with a time of 2:11.54; she holds the second-fastest outdoor mark in program history for that distance.
Women’s triple jump and javelin competitors from Illinois Wesleyan are scheduled to compete along with Lowder on May 23, which will be the final day of competition at nationals.
The Illinois Wesleyan Titans Men’s Track and Field team hosts indoor events at Shirk Center Indoor Track, belongs to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, competes at NCAA Division III level, features student-athletes across all undergraduate years, operates within intercollegiate athletics, is based in Bloomington, Illinois, and recently placed second at their conference championships according to the official website.
