School District 140 announced on Apr. 16 several updates regarding student-issued technology devices as the school year comes to a close. The district outlined specific instructions for students in grades one through eight, including device return dates, summer take-home guidelines, and opportunities for families to purchase iPads.

The announcement provides important information for parents and guardians about managing their children’s access to educational technology over the summer break. It also details deadlines and costs associated with purchasing district-issued devices.

For first, third, sixth, and seventh graders, students will be allowed to take home their devices along with charging blocks and cords during the summer. Families are reminded that these items must be returned with students on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Second-grade families have the option to buy their student’s tenth-generation iPad without a keyboard case for $75 by Friday, May 15; purchased devices will be released on Tuesday, May 19. Fourth-grade families can buy a ninth-generation iPad with keyboard case for $50 under similar terms.

Eighth-grade families are offered the chance to purchase a ninth-generation iPad with keyboard case for $50 if payment is made by Friday, May 8; these devices will be distributed on Tuesday, May 12. Fifth-grade students’ devices will be collected at year-end rather than sent home. Replacement fees were listed as $75 for damaged devices or $19 each for missing charging blocks or cables.
