The D140 school board honored Keller fifth-grader Juliana N. for receiving the 2026 Outstanding Student Technology Award from the Infinitec Southwest Assistive Technology Coalition at its meeting on April 16.

The recognition highlights Juliana’s achievements in using assistive technology to support her learning and independence. The board said that this regional honor is given to students who show significant progress and skill in utilizing technology as a tool for success. Juliana was formally recognized during a ceremony held at Chicago Gaelic Park in March.

According to the statement, “Juliana’s growth, perseverance, and ability to use technology as a tool for success truly exemplify this award.” The board also extended congratulations to Juliana, her family, and the staff supporting her daily efforts: “We congratulate Juliana, her family, and the dedicated staff who support her each day on this outstanding achievement.”

John A. Bannes Elementary School serves grades kindergarten through five with an enrollment of 433 students during the 2019-2020 school year in Tinley Park and Cook County, according to the Illinois Report Card. Of these students, grade three had the highest concentration with 18.9 percent of all students enrolled that year according to Illinois Report Card. Other grade distributions included fifth grade with 14.5 percent of students, fourth grade with 15 percent, second grade with 15.7 percent, and first grade with 14.1 percent.

This recognition reflects ongoing efforts by local schools to encourage technological skills among students while highlighting individual accomplishments within the community.
