Dana Surwillo and Kenneth Cooley received weekly honors from the Ohio Valley Conference after their performances at the NIU Huskie Classic, according to a May 13 announcement.

The recognition highlights the achievements of student-athletes in track and field events. These awards are given to individuals who deliver notable results during competition, underscoring their contributions to their teams.

Cooley was named Male Freshman Athlete of the Week after winning the 100 meters in a personal-best 10.43 seconds, which is now the eighth-fastest mark in Western Illinois University history. He also placed second in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 21.32 seconds, moving to sixth all-time in program history. Surwillo earned Female Field Athlete of the Week honors after clearing a personal-best 4.00 meters in the pole vault to claim first place; her result now ranks second all-time for Western Illinois University.

The Western Illinois University Leathernecks Women’s Track and Field team participates in NCAA Division I competitions as part of its broader athletics program based out of Macomb, Illinois, according to the official website. The team has promoted growth and competitiveness since its early days and maintains a full roster for the current season that includes both freshmen and upperclassmen athletes. In addition, it earned All-Academic Team recognition from USTFCCCA for scholastic achievements by student-athletes last year.
