State Representative Regan Deering joined House Republican colleagues in signing a letter to Governor Pritzker and the General Assembly calling for property tax relief and reform, according to a May 28 announcement. The letter urges action before the legislative session adjourns on May 31.
The proposals outlined by House Republicans include a cap on reserve funds held by local units of government, increasing the percentage reimbursed for Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF), Tax Increment Financing (TIF) reform, consolidation of local units of government by voter choice, property tax relief through state grants for education, and a hard cap on property taxes.
“Illinois families are being crushed by unaffordability here in Illinois,” said Regan Deering. “Our state has the highest property taxes in the nation, taxing hardworking families out of their homes because they cannot keep up with the high cost of living. Providing relief starts with us, and we owe it to our constituents to work towards making life more affordable.”
Deering said she is a co-sponsor on many bills aimed at making life more affordable for Illinois residents. “These measures are common-sense bills, I am joining my colleagues in calling for the Governor and the rest of the 104th General Assembly to get to work and provide the desperately needed relief and reform today,” concluded Deering.
Deering was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 88th House District in 2025, succeeding Dan Caulkins, according to RepDeering.com.
