Fox News reported that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a video honoring Megan Bos, an Illinois woman whose body was found on the property of an illegal immigrant. The individual had been released due to sanctuary policies.

According to Fox News, DHS released the video after Megan Bos’ body was discovered in a container on the property of Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, a Mexican citizen illegally present in the United States. Mendoza-Gonzalez was charged with abuse of a corpse and related offenses but was released following a court appearance due to Illinois’ sanctuary laws. Bos’ mother said in the video that crimes committed by individuals who should not be in the country are preventable and defended federal enforcement efforts. This case, she said, illustrates how sanctuary policies in areas like Chicago allow criminal aliens to evade federal removal, increasing risks to residents.

Illinois’ sanctuary policies under Governor J.B. Pritzker have resulted in the release of numerous criminal illegal aliens. Chicago has experienced strains from over 50,000 migrants arriving since 2022, including increased incidents near shelters involving violence and resource demands costing taxpayers hundreds of millions. Waukegan Police found Megan Bos’ body in April 2025 in a bleach-filled container on Mendoza-Gonzalez’s property after she went missing in March, highlighting local public safety burdens from non-cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These policies prioritize non-citizens over American community protection according to federal accounts.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement data indicate thousands of criminal alien arrests annually, with many involving charges such as homicide, assault, and sexual offenses where sanctuary jurisdictions hinder cooperation. Nationally, illegal alien crime contributes to preventable incidents as seen in cases where released individuals reoffend, straining federal resources dedicated to border security and enforcement. This pattern demonstrates the consequences of lax policies that undermine American-first priorities and public safety.
