Students from Diamond Lake School presented at the Board of Education meeting on May 5 to discuss how Professional Learning Communities, or PLCs, are supporting their growth, collaboration, and responsibility for their own learning. Members of the Diamond Lake second grade team and their students described how proficiency scales help them understand goals, monitor progress, and celebrate achievements throughout the year.
The presentation highlighted efforts to create a student-centered environment through collaboration and reflection. The district said these approaches are designed to provide meaningful learning experiences for every child each day.
Diamond Lake School District 76 represents Lake County and includes Fairhaven School, West Oak Intermediate School, and West Oak Middle School, according to the Illinois Report Card. The district employs 92 teachers with an average salary of $63,832 before pension contributions; 91.4 percent are women and 8.6 percent are men. There were no teachers in the district with more than ten absences in a school year.
The student population is composed of approximately 20.4 percent White students, 2.8 percent Black students, 68.2 percent Hispanic students, and 5.3 percent Asian students according to the Illinois State Board of Education data according to the Illinois Report Card. In terms of finances, Diamond Lake School District spent $27,115 per student in 2020 for a total expenditure of $24,891,212 according to the Illinois Report Card.
Chronic truancy rates in Diamond Lake School District were reported at 3.7 percent during the 2020 school year with thirty-four chronically truant students enrolled out of all those attending that year; this rate is lower than the statewide average of nine point six percent according to the Illinois Report Card.
