The District Wellness Committee announced on June 1 the conclusion of its annual District-Wide Walking Challenge, reporting increased engagement among staff across Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181. Nearly 200 staff members from every building participated in the initiative, which aims to promote daily movement and healthier lifestyles.
According to the committee, participants combined for nearly six million steps early in the challenge. By the end, leading schools had covered thousands of miles. The Lane School took first place with over 8.8 million steps—totaling more than 4,200 miles—and celebrated their achievement with a breakfast from Citrus Cafe. Walker Elementary secured second place by logging over 8.6 million steps and exceeding 4,000 miles; participants there were recognized with healthy snacks.
In addition to school-wide achievements, individual champions were recognized as part of Mental Health Month initiatives. Honorees included Allicia Smrha and Kathy McNeela at Elm; Lauren Miller and Scott Burtnette at HMS; Julie Vladika at Madison; Taylor Button at Monroe; Carrie Fitzgerald at Oak; Anne Marie Bodrozic and Rebecca Swanson at Prospect; Bridget Cavato and Dan Ozga at The Lane (TLS); Jen Pestka and Lynn Marquardt at Walker; Lindy Phelan at CHMS; and Jessica Schultz from the District Office.
Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181 serves DuPage and Cook counties through multiple schools including Clarendon Hills Middle School, Elm Elementary School, Hinsdale Middle School, Madison Elementary School, Monroe Elementary School, Oak Elementary School, Prospect Elementary School, The Lane Elementary School, and Walker School,according to the Illinois Report Card. The district enrolled 3,743 students during the 2019-2020 school year as an elementary district serving grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County.
The Illinois State Board of Education reports that Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181 has a teaching staff of 282 earning an average salary of $94,227 before pension contributions. Ninety percent are women while ten percent are men. No teachers had more than ten absences in a school year,according to the Illinois State Board of Education.
