Eastern Illinois University defeated Bradley University on April 29 in a midweek baseball contest, scoring double-digit runs for the 14th time this season. The win brought Eastern Illinois’ record to 25-15, while Bradley fell to 8-37.
The Panthers took control early by scoring five runs in the second inning, extending their lead to 6-0 after also tallying a run in the first. Colin Horneman and Quade Peters started the rally with consecutive base hits, followed by Tyler Castro loading the bases after being hit by a pitch. Brett Stanley drove in Horneman with a single, and additional hits from Mike O’Conor and Peyton Wilson capped off the big inning.
Bradley responded quickly in their half of the second inning, cutting Eastern Illinois’ lead to two runs with a double from Angelo Aleman that brought home two runners. Another single scored Aleman before the Panthers regrouped.
Eastern Illinois added insurance runs in the fifth inning through timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. Stanley went three-for-four at bat with three RBIs during the game, while Horneman finished three-for-five including an RBI double. Peters contributed three hits and two stolen bases.
Pitcher Mac Zawistoski earned his second win of the season for Eastern Illinois, allowing four earned runs over five innings pitched and striking out three batters. On Bradley’s side, Calen Schedier was credited with the loss after pitching one inning.
The final score saw Eastern Illinois post twelve runs on fourteen hits with one error; Bradley managed four runs on eleven hits but committed two errors. The Panthers will next face Southeast Missouri State University this Friday at 6:00 p.m.
