Eastern Illinois University reported on May 15 that its student-athletes achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.35 during the spring 2026 semester. This marks the fourth consecutive semester in which Panther student-athletes have earned a GPA of 3.3 or higher.

The academic performance is significant as it highlights the ongoing commitment of Eastern Illinois University’s athletes to their studies while balancing athletic responsibilities.

Seven teams posted team GPAs of 3.5 or higher for the term, with softball leading all programs for the fourth straight semester by improving from a fall team GPA of 3.81 to a spring team GPA of 3.91. Men’s soccer recorded the highest men’s team GPA at 3.61, while other teams surpassing a collective GPA of 3.50 included women’s golf (3.88), women’s cross country (3.84), women’s swimming (3.59), women’s soccer (3.55), and women’s track and field (3.55).

Additionally, Eastern Illinois University said that ninety-three student-athletes achieved perfect GPAs of 4.0 for the fall term, and seventy-four percent of department athletes finished with at least a 3.0 GPA during the spring semester.

Football was just below a cumulative average of three points with a reported team GPA of 2.97 for this period.

Spring sports competition is concluding as softball prepares to play at an NCAA Regional in Stillwater, Oklahoma from May 15-17, outdoor track and field competes at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships from May 15-16, and baseball concludes its regular season before entering tournament play next week.
