Edwardsville police announce arrest in Chase Bank robbery case

A man from Washington, Indiana, has been arrested in connection with a bank robbery that took place at Chase Bank on Harvard Drive in Edwardsville earlier this week. The Edwardsville Police Department announced the arrest on December 31, 2025.

The suspect, identified as Robert Neal, age 51, was formally charged by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. According to the charging document issued Wednesday, Neal faces three counts: financial institution robbery (Class 1 felony), possession of a stolen license plate (Class 2 felony), and theft (Class 3 felony). At the time of the announcement, Neal was being held in custody in Evansville, Indiana.

The Edwardsville Police Department expressed appreciation for assistance provided by the Evansville Police Department during the investigation.

“These charges, as well as the statements made herein, are based upon probable cause. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law,” stated officials from the department.
