Emerson Middle School’s eighth graders participated in their promotion ceremony at Maine East High School on May 29, marking the completion of their middle school years and preparing to enter high school. The event recognized the achievements and growth of the Class of 2026 as they move forward to new academic and personal challenges.
Principal Tessa Shulman said, “We are extremely proud of our 8th graders and wish nothing but the best for them as they leave Emerson to tackle high school and the next steps of their lives. We are always sad to see our 8th graders leave, but we know that this promotion will bring amazing things for each and every one of you after Emerson.”
Catherine Karabalieva, an eighth-grade student, welcomed attendees and acknowledged her classmates’ efforts over three years. “This day ends our adolescent lives and brings a new step to becoming young adults,” said Catherine.
Another student speaker, Riyaad Aflal, addressed his peers about the significance of their shared experiences. “Middle school was never just about grades, assignments, or tests. It was about growing up,” said Riyaad. “We will never forget how these years felt. We will remember the friendships, the laughter, the lessons, the struggles we overcame, and the moment we realized we were stronger than we once believed.”
During the ceremony, Paxton Miroslaw and Luciya Janardhan received special recognition with the Judith L. Snow Ethical Leadership Award for demonstrating commitment to core values throughout their time at Emerson.
