Emily Delgado, a junior on the Southern Illinois University Salukis Women’s Softball team, was named both the D1Softball Mid-Major Pitcher of the Week and the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week on Apr. 21.

The recognition highlights Delgado’s recent performance for Southern Illinois University, which participates in NCAA Division I competitions according to the official website. The awards mark her first time receiving either honor and follow freshman Brooklynn Danielson’s selection as MVC Pitcher of the Week last week.

Delgado faced Northern Iowa, one of the top offenses nationally, and went 2-0 with one save across three appearances. She did not allow a run, gave up only four hits over eight strikeouts and two walks, maintaining a .200 opposing batting average. In Friday’s opening game against Northern Iowa, Delgado entered during a tie in the sixth inning with two outs and struck out a batter to keep it even at 1-1 before closing out for a 2-1 win. In another game, she secured her fourth save by preserving SIU’s lead through late innings with key defensive plays including a double play after an initial walk.

Delgado finished her weekend by earning another win in Saturday’s contest after entering in relief during the fifth inning without allowing any runs for a final score of 5-3. Across conference play this season, she ranks fifth in ERA (2.70) overall and third in saves (four), while holding third place for ERA (2.21) specifically within conference games.

The Salukis are members of both NCAA Division I softball competition and maintain membership in the Missouri Valley Conference according to their official website (source). The team is based in Carbondale, Illinois where they host home games at Charlotte West Stadium as reported by their official site.

Looking ahead, Delgado and her teammates will play a doubleheader against Murray State today starting at 2 p.m., continuing their competitive season.
