State Representative Brad Stephens attended the annual Illinois Fallen Firefighter Memorial Ceremony in Springfield on May 13. The event brought together lawmakers and firefighters from across Illinois at the Capitol grounds to pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of firefighters and first responders.

The ceremony is an opportunity for participants to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service. “Each year, we remember the supreme sacrifice of these fallen heroes and recognize our firefighters who serve with courage, pride, and honor,” said Rep. Stephens.

Stephens met with members of fire departments from his district during the event, including representatives from the Rosemont Fire Department. He also met Derek DeRose from the Elmwood Park Fire Department, who was awarded a medal of valor for his actions.

Stephens, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2019 to represent the state’s 20th House District, replacing previous state representative Michael P. McAuliffe, according to AFSA Online.

The memorial ceremony serves as a reminder of both past sacrifices and ongoing dedication among first responders throughout Illinois.
