Several farmers markets on the Far Northwest Side are preparing to open for the summer, according to a May 7 announcement. Markets in Jefferson Park, Portage Park, and Edgebrook will offer residents access to local produce and goods throughout the coming months.

The return of these markets gives neighbors opportunities to buy fresh food directly from vendors while enjoying community events. Each market features different schedules and offerings, catering to families and individuals seeking seasonal produce and artisan products.

The Jefferson Park Sunday Market operates year-round at the Copernicus Center during winter but will move outdoors to Jefferson Memorial Park starting June 14. The outdoor market runs every second and fourth Sunday from June through October between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., with vendors such as Bennetts Farm, Distinct Bath and Body, Epic Craft Ice Cream, Parra Family Farms, Tamales Express, Sabor a Mexico Salsas, and Vargo Brother Ferments participating this season. More information about vendors can be found on the Jefferson Park Sunday Market website.

Portage Park Farmers Market returns June 7 at Portage Park on North Long Avenue. It typically takes place every other Sunday from June through October with specific dates listed as June 7 and 21; July 19; August 2, 16, and 30; September 6 and 20; October 4 and 18. Updates about vendors will be posted on their Facebook and Instagram pages.

Edgebrook’s North Branch Farmers Market launched in 2024 serves neighborhoods including Sauganash, Wildwood, Forest Glen as well as Edgebrook itself. This market begins its season on June 27 at Edgebrook Elementary School with hours from nine in the morning until one in the afternoon every other Saturday through September. Organizers are currently seeking more produce growers by waiving all fees for farmers this year. The market is also recognized for free children’s activities like face painting, crafts, or visits from characters such as Bluey the dog.

Residents interested in participating or attending can find updates online for each respective market.
