State Representative Brad Stephens participated in the House Republicans’ annual Women to Watch event in Springfield on Apr. 27. The event brings together female leaders from across Illinois for a day of recognition, celebration, and networking at the Capitol.
The gathering is significant as it highlights the contributions of women who lead and serve their communities throughout Illinois. Each State Representative nominates female leaders from their district to be honored for their leadership.
This year, Stephens invited Terri Sheridan and Shawn Campbell as his guests, recognizing them for their work in the 20th District. “They are making a difference each day to build up a better, stronger community,” said Rep. Stephens.
The event also featured a panel discussion with House Minority Leader Tony McCombie and Iowa Lieutenant Governor Chris Cournoyer. According to the press release, Cournoyer is an advocate for STEM education and has worked on expanding hands-on learning opportunities for students. The two officials discussed their roles in state legislatures, paths to leadership, and factors that have contributed to their success.
Stephens said he appreciated participating this year by honoring his nominees and recognizing efforts happening statewide. Stephens was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 20th House District in 2019 after Michael P. McAuliffe stepped down according to Ballotpedia.
The broader impact of events like Women to Watch includes fostering connections among women leaders and encouraging continued community engagement.
