Eastern Illinois University announced on May 26 that five members of its softball team have earned Academic All-District honors from College Sports Communicators.

Mo Hance, Marybeth Dyson, Karlie McKenzie, Lizzie Stiverson and Alisha Frederick were recognized for their achievements as student-athletes. To be considered for Academic All-District, student-athletes must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Graduate students must have maintained a 3.5 GPA during both undergraduate and graduate studies. In addition to academic requirements, athletes must be a starter or key reserve who has appeared in at least 90 percent of the team’s games or started in at least 66 percent.

The university stated that each school may select up to four student-athletes who meet these criteria. Hance holds a 3.80 GPA in Business Administration; Dyson has a 3.81 GPA in Elementary Education; McKenzie posted a 3.97 GPA in Exercise Science Pre-Occupational Therapy; Stiverson has a 4.00 GPA in Exercise Science; and Frederick holds a 4.00 GPA in Human Services.

The Academic All-District Softball Teams are selected by College Sports Communicators to recognize top student-athletes nationwide for combined performance on the field and in the classroom. The program separately recognizes honorees across NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA divisions.

Academic All-District honorees are eligible for consideration on the CSC Academic All-America ballot, with first-, second- and third-team selections set to be announced in the coming weeks.
