The Mundelein Park & Recreation District announced on April 17 that flooding has occurred in the Keith Mione Community Park and Loch Lomond areas following a beaver dam collapse at Kettering Road. The incident happened after extraordinary rainfall over the past week led to high water conditions.

The announcement matters for local residents and park visitors, as the flooding may affect accessibility in these popular recreational spaces. According to district staff, large logs and debris were observed washing downstream toward the dam during inspections prompted by recent storms. During one of these inspections, the dam gave way, releasing additional water downstream and causing isolated flooding.

Despite the situation, officials said there are currently no expected impacts to programming within the park district. Residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution around standing water on roads, sidewalks, and pathways due to potential hazards from flooding.

The park district also stated that if weather forecasts remain favorable, water levels are expected to begin receding over the next week. Staff will continue monitoring conditions in affected areas and address any impacts as needed.
