FOIA Request to City of New Boston regarding vendor payment registers on February 1, 2026.

The Prairie State Wire, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of New Boston in Illinois. The request seeks access to the city’s vendor payment register for the immediately preceding calendar month.

Specifically, the requested records include the names of vendors paid by the city, dates and amounts of payments, and descriptions of goods or services purchased. The purpose of this request is to gather information of public interest for dissemination to the public. It is emphasized that this request pertains only to existing records and does not necessitate the creation of new documents.

The Prairie State Wire has expressed its willingness to receive these records in electronic format if available. Additionally, as a member of the media involved in gathering and reporting news, they have requested a fee waiver based on their role in providing transparency and holding public institutions accountable.

This FOIA request is supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
