FOIA Request to Illinois Department of Corrections Regarding Immigration Detainer Records on January 29, 2025. As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Prairie State Wire have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The request specifically seeks documents and/or records showing persons, as of January 29, 2025, that are committed to all facilities under the jurisdiction of the Illinois Department of Corrections and are subject to an Immigration Detainer issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.

As a media organization, we believe in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We hope that our role in disseminating information will make us eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We will continue to keep you updated on this matter as more information becomes available.
