FOIA Request to Illinois Office of the Attorney General Regarding Reports Filed by County Sheriffs on March 6, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, Prairie State Wire has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Illinois Office of the Attorney General. We are seeking access to all reports filed by county sheriffs for the year 2024 in accordance with the statutory requirements of the Illinois TRUST Act and the Illinois VOICES Act. Our request specifically asks for these reports from all 102 counties in Illinois, preferably in electronic format.

Access to public records is crucial for us as members of the media. It enables us to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency for the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.

This request is also supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. Through leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, we aim to shed light on government actions and better inform the American electorate.

We look forward to receiving these records and will continue our efforts to provide transparent and accountable reporting on governmental affairs.
