A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by Prairie State Wire to the Village of Central City on February 1, 2026. The request seeks access to records concerning new contracts and any amendments to existing contracts that were executed, approved, or became effective during the immediately preceding calendar month.

The specific information requested includes the title of the contract or amendment, names of contracting parties, effective and approval dates, contract amounts or amended values, and descriptions of the goods or services covered. This request is aimed at gathering information of public interest for dissemination to the public and is limited to records that currently exist without requiring the creation of new documents.

The request also asks for any denied portions to be accompanied by a specific statutory basis for denial while releasing all reasonably segregable portions of the records. Prairie State Wire has expressed a preference for receiving these records in electronic format if available. Additionally, they have requested a fee waiver as members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public.

Prairie State Wire is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating governmental agencies through FOIA and Sunshine Laws. More information about this organization can be found on their website here.
