A federal investigation has led to the indictment of four Rockford men on charges related to cocaine trafficking, according to an April 1 announcement by authorities.
The case is significant because it targets an alleged drug trafficking organization operating in the Rockford area. Law enforcement officials say such operations contribute to broader issues of crime and public safety in the community.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office conducted covert surveillance, undercover narcotics purchases, and wiretapped communications as part of their investigation. The four individuals charged are Amjed Alsadun, Ahmed Alsadun, Namario L. Haley, all age 38, and Will A. Evans, age 32. An indictment unsealed Tuesday in federal court charges them with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and other drug offenses.
Amjed Alsadun, Ahmed Alsadun, and Haley were arrested Tuesday morning and pleaded not guilty during their arraignments that afternoon in federal court in Rockford. Detention hearings for Amjed Alsadun and Ahmed Alsadun are scheduled for April 3, while a detention hearing for Haley will be held on April 7. Evans is currently being held in state custody on an unrelated charge; his arraignment is set for April 6.
Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; Douglas S. DePodesta, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI; and Gary Caruana, Winnebago County Sheriff announced the charges and arrests. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Kim is representing the government.
Authorities remind the public that “an indictment contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt.” They further said that “the defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”
