Illinois State Representative David Friess said on May 27 that he will oppose any state budget that includes tax increases and increased government spending. Friess is back in Springfield for the final week of the 2026 Spring Legislative Session, where legislators are working to address remaining legislation before the May 31 deadline.
According to Friess, “The top item on the agenda this week is Governor Pritzker’s record-breaking $56 billion budget proposal, the largest in Illinois history. Even worse, this budget proposal relies on $700 million in NEW taxes to support even more government spending.” He said he would be a strong no vote on any such measures.
“Illinoisans deserve a state government that can live within its means, not one that raises taxes year after year to fund the out-of-control spending,” Friess said.
Friess was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 115th House District in 2023, replacing previous state representative Nathan Reitz, according to Rep. David Friess.
He indicated he would provide further updates as the legislative session progresses.
