Geneva Fire Chief Mike Antenore announced on May 21 that he will retire from the Geneva Fire Department, with his last day set for Friday, Aug. 14.
Antenore has served as fire chief for the past decade and spent a total of 30 years with the department. Mayor Kevin Burns said, “Geneva is grateful to Chief Antenore for his tenure as Fire Chief and decades-long service as a firefighter. His leadership, passion and selfless contributions are immeasurable, and his legacy is defined by cultivating a fire department rooted in compassion and commitment to public service.”
Antenore began his career in Geneva as a paid-on-call firefighter in 1996 before advancing to part-time engineer, lieutenant, and ultimately being appointed chief in 2016. He currently leads a combination department consisting of full-time firefighter/paramedics, contract paramedic/firefighters, and more than three dozen paid-on-call firefighters. The Geneva Fire Department has been accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International since 2001 and holds an ISO Class 2 rating.
During his time as chief, Antenore prioritized safety initiatives while overseeing investments in new equipment and facility maintenance. He also led modernization efforts that improved operational efficiency and customer service. In addition to these efforts, he promoted training opportunities and professional development among staff members.
Reflecting on his career with the department, Antenore said: “I am both honored and humbled to have had the opportunity to serve the Geneva community for the past 30 years. It has truly been a once-in-a-lifetime privilege to work alongside the men and women of the Geneva Fire Department. The members are dedicated professionals and are committed to serving our residents, businesses and visitors.”
Outside of firefighting duties, Antenore worked at Nalco (An Ecolab Company) for over three decades in sales management roles. He is involved with several professional organizations including serving as chairperson of Tri-Com Central Dispatch Board of Directors.
Antenore plans to remain in Geneva during retirement along with his wife Mary.
